Australia is facing a crisis of mass incarceration, over-policing and over-criminalisation. In a weakened democracy, grappling with inequality, climate change, and a pandemic, this crisis can only worsen if we do not change course.
Community members, organisations and philanthropists are recognising the need to act urgently. They want to scale up efforts to shift the public conversation and build the political pressure that will reverse current trends. Momentum is building. But a critical first step is to understand the current landscape, so that current resources can be maximised and coordinated, and new resources and efforts focused strategically where they are needed.
